Supported Family Time
Supported Family Time is for families where trust has broken down or communication is difficult, and a neutral, safe space helps children spend time with a parent or family member. Staff and volunteers are available to support you, but they do not closely observe or monitor conversations and do not normally write detailed reports unless a safety concern arises.
When & where it happens
- Sessions are usually held in the centre.
- Saturday sessions run on a fortnightly basis (every other Saturday) between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Who it's for
Supported sessions are suitable:
- When contact can safely take place without supervision.
- Where parents may not be ready for fully unsupervised visits but communication is still difficult.
- As a next step after supervised sessions.
You don’t need to meet the other person involved unless it’s safe and agreed – this depends on your child’s wishes and your own comfort and safety.
How the sessions work
- Several families may be together in the same space.
- There is no close observation or evaluation of what happens in the sessions.
- The parent the child lives with must arrive 10 minutes before and stay 10 minutes after the session.
